Indian government to offer home loan subsidy for the poor

The Indian government has plans to provide an interest-rate subsidy on home loans for the economically backward and low income sections of the urban areas.

The frequent changes in interest rates have led to almost 50 per cent hike in EMIs.

The country may face a shortage of 2.65 crore houses by 2012.
