Volkswagen to strengthen its foothold in India

European car major Volkswagen (VW) considers India as a important market for its growth and plans to expand its base by introducing new models, including the newly launched up! concept. Up! is the new mini car concept that the company introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show. According to VW board of management it will be launched in India by 2010. VW has added a member to its 'new small family' cars with the introduction of up! concept. VW, that has started selling the luxury sedan 'Passat' in India, is also setting up a plant at Maharashtra. The company has plans to launch the 'Polo' compact in the market that will be manufactured at its upcoming factory. The TiguanSUV that was unveiled at Frankurt could also come to India.
