Two-wheeler
manufacturers are contemplating models with engine power in excess of 150cc for
launch in Analysts
suggest that automatic scooters will be the future of commuting in cities for
men, a segment dominated by 100cc motorcycles. TVS
Motors, Kinetic, Honda Motorcycle, Yamaha, Bajaj Auto and Suzuki Motorcycles
are eyeing a piece of the power scooter segment. One of
the first of such bikes to be launched will be the Bajaj Blade (150cc) which is
expected to be in showrooms by later half of this year. TVS
Motors is working on a gearless scooter with much more power than its current
offering in the scooter segment Scooty. Suzuki
Motorcycles has seen a phenomenal demand for Access125. As reported by Business
Standard, Satya Sheel, Managing Director, Suzuki Motorcycles, said, "The
urban scale of commuting will change since the Indian consumer is the least
predictable of all. We will get into the 150cc-plus segment as we continue to
upgrade our products and try to fulfill the aspirations of all types of
buyers." The
reason for the rise in interest among two-wheeler makers in this segment is the
expected change in buyer preference within the segment. Most
people prefer to have a second vehicle and the choice is an automatic scooter,
which rides easily without the botheration of changing gears. People want to
make quick trips and more powerful scooters will serve the purpose. |
