Mahindra & Mahindra announced the launch of
the hybrid version of Scorpio and its indigenously developed SUV Ingenio, on
September 5th, 2007, on the sidelines of the SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile
Manufacturer) Annual Convention, in New Delhi.
Announcing the launch, M&M’s president Pawan Goenka said that the primary focus is on the diesel engine for “Ingenio†and the sports utility vehicle (SUV) will be launched next year. M&M is also trying to sell its new army off-roader, Axe, to the Indian and Israeli armies. The vehicle is being tested by the Israeli Army and would be also tested by the Indian Army soon, said Goenka. He said the commercial production of the vehicle will start once the company receives the order from the army. The company has invested $6-7 million in developing the Axe. It has sourced the engine for Axe from an Israeli firm and has no plans to develop its own engine for the off-roader. He also said that the company was still a couple of years away from its US foray. |
