General Motors (GM) is planning to gear up their
engine manufacturing facility in India for their small car plans. GM’s new
facility that may come up near Pune will manufacture around a million diesel and
petrol engines for its small car. The small car is a successor of the Chevrolet Spark and will be based on the Chevrolet Beat, says sources from the industry. Codenamed M300, this facility is expected to step up GM’s growth in India, which has not been impressive till now. GM plans to have two diesel (1 and 1.3 litres) and petrol (1.2 and 1.4 litres) engine options and targets 2, 50, 000 units of the smaller 1-litre diesel engine between 2010 and 2015. They have also planned 5 lakh petrol engine units also by then. |
