Audi India, a division of German auto major Audi, is planning to start assembling its compact executive A4 car in India. A4 is in line with the company’s move to start assembling its Rs 41-lakh mid-sized luxury sedan A6 in India from October-end or early-November at Skoda India’s facility at Aurangabad. Media quoted Bettina Bernhardt, the official spokesperson of Audi India saying, “We may consider assembling the A4 in India in future. It is now imported from Germany and sold at Rs 26.6 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Initially, we will assemble the A6. In the first year, we are looking to assemble 300 to 500 A6 luxury sedans in the country. India is one of our future growth markets. Our idea is to become the leading prestige brand in the country. By 2010, we plan to achieve vehicle sales of around 3,000 units,â€
Audi India’s strategy also includes an expansion of the
dealer network to provide at least 9 exclusive Audi dealerships around the
country before end-2007. At present, 3 dealers in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi
sell Audi A4, Audi A6, Audi A8, Audi Q7 and the recently launched Audi TT
sports car. |
