The main objective of the company is providing long term finance to individuals for purchase, /construction, /repair, or renovation of new/existing flats/houses. The company also provides finance on existing property for business/personal needs. Further it gives loans to professionals for purchase or construction of clinics, nursing homes, diagnostic centers, or office space.

LIC Housing Finance also lends to corporate bodies and companies under different schemes for purchase or construction of office premises for their own use, construction of staff quarters, for onward lending to meet the requirements of employees, and to builders and developers for residential and commercial projects.

For the year ended March 2007, the company's total income was Rs.1583 crores as against Rs.1269 crores during the same period the previous year. Net profit during this period was Rs 279.14 crores as compared to Rs.208.57 crores in the corresponding period last year, a growth of 34%.

LIC Housing Finance Ltd has one of the widest marketing networks, boasting of 115 offices across the country and a representative office in the UAE at Dubai to cater to the non-resident Indians in the GLCC countries covering Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
