Launched in 1977, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (HDFC) concentrates on housing finance and offers home loans and deposit products to property related services and a training facility.

The housing finance company also provides financial services to its customers. In 1998, it was voted as the 'Best Managed company in India' in a survey of 250 fund managers, world wide conducted by Asiamoney. It also pioneered in micro-finance institutions operating in the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The company also offers home equity loans to corporates. In 2006, there were home loan approvals to the tune of Rs. 1,00,000 crore.
