| My own brother is pursuing a master's degree for which I have taken an education loan. I am paying the loan amount through EMI's. I am a salaried individual working with a private organisation. Will I be eligible for income tax benefit? My father is agriculturist. (Mudda Mallikarjun) | |

| Your father can get the deduction provided the following conditions are satisfied: 1)The loan should have been taken by him – which means he should be one of the borrowers – simply paying the loan amount is not enough if the original borrower is yourself or your brother 2)The loan should be taken from a bank or a approved charitable institution 3)The interest should actually have been paid by him out of his income chargeable to tax 4)The masters course being studied by your brother should be a full time course and should be in the field of “engineering, medicine, management, or for applied sciences or pure sciences including mathematics and statistics” | |
