Date : Sep 13, 2007 Question I have taken loan of Rs. 14,20,000 from LIC Housing Finance Ltd. As the real estate prices are rising, the current market value of the property is Rs.45,00,000. Can I get an education loan of nearly Rs.10,00,000 as a top-up loan? Can any bank provide such a loan? Answer You may be able to get a top-up loan of Rs.10 lakh based on the income and repayment track record of the home loan borrower. however, the rate of interest will be higher and the tenure lower for the top-up loan. This will make it an expensive option. You can provide the above mentioned property as a collateral security. banks require collateral security for study loans above Rs.4 lakh.
