my husband was offered cash in selct on icici card few months back...he unknowingly accepted it...now he never knew payment will not be auuthomatically dedufted from the card instead it has to be made by cheque every month....he missed his payment. bank foreclosed and we have paid partial of the prinicoal amt. wer will be paying rest of the principal amount. My question is...if somebdy has settled any loan with any bank...is is listed in CIBIL and does settling of the loan have adverse effects on the borrowing eligiblity of the customer...how do we know if the name is listed in CIBIL or not..or is the name listed in bank defaulter list....please tell the address - phone number if any...thanks...

When you go for a settlement (that is you do not pay the full amount due as per the agreement) it is considered as a default and will be recorded as such with CIBIL. Approach the ICICI Bank for a credit report or CIBIL to get a copy of your credit report. This right is given to you by Credit Information Companies Regulation Act, 2005. Make the request officially in writing and get an acknowledgement. Details: CREDIT INFORMATION BUREAU (INDIA) LIMITED, Hoechst House, 6th Floor, 193 Backbay Reclamation, Nariman Point, Mumbai 400021. Call: +91-2266384600/22817788, fax:+91-22 66384666, email:info@cibil.com. The report will outline what exactly is reported by the bank in respect to your credit account and enable you to take action. CIBIL is a credit bureau and not a bureau that maintains a list of defaulters only. It will necessarily disclose the facts regarding your credit history, like delayed payments in the past, dues settled without write-offs on the part of the bank. All potential lenders will have access to this information.
