| I had american express bank's credit card. Since I was unable to clear my credit card dues in time, outstanding rose to a very high level. I requested the bank for a settlement and repaid the settlement amount as per terms of the settlement. After nearly three years of settlement I have come to know that the bank is still showing showing me as defaulter and reported in CIBIL negative list. When I am asking for explanation and no dues letter,AMEX is not responding, at the most I received one call stating that no dues can be given only if I repay the balance amount now. What should I do to remove my name from the negative list ? Is AMEX justified in showing me as defaulter ? | |

| You cannot remove your name from the defaulters list. When you go in for a settlement, banks can and will legally report you as a defaulter - to the extent of the dues foregone by them - at the credit bureau. All details concerning your default stay at the credit bureau for 7 years. In this period, anytime you apply for a home loan, personal loan, or a credit card the details of your default will show up during the verification process and it becomes highly unlikely that any lender will lend you credit.
