| I used a Citibank CC & closed it also. At the time of closing, I had cut the card into pieces and deposited in an ATM along with a letter also. I remember when they asked me to renew the card by mentioning the amount in the monthly statement, I did this. I don't remember whether I informed the bank over phone about closure. After 3 years, I started receiving emails from the bank for the last 2 months that an outstanding amount of Rs.18000/-(and odd) is pending in my card. i spoke to a Customer support person today and informed her about this. As I was not knowing the card no or date/month of closure, by mentioning my dateofbirth, address and the last 4 digits of the card from the email, I got the details from them. She told me that there was a New India Life Insurance policy and the premium amount was not paid besides the payment of renewal amount. These two got accumulated and charge amount has been raised. She infrmed me that collectn dept would call me regarding this. Pl. guide me | |

| To cancel the card 1st you have to inform the bank and surrender the card to bank and not in a ATM machine.You need to obtain an acknowledgment for the same .If you have any proof of the surrendrer of the card you can submit it to the bank and give the details of your concern in the bank website. If the bank does not respond within a months time go to www.bankingombudsman.rbi.org.in to get the details .But if you have no proof regarding the cancellation you will have to pay the outstanding amount . | |
