Volvo India is planning to double export of its heavy duty trucks to other Asian countries by 2009.

Media quoted Eric Leblanc, Managing Director, Volvo India Pvt Ltd saying, "At present, we are exporting trucks to Korea, buses to Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. We are looking to export 2,000 units by next year."

The increase in exports would not require any capacity expansion. "We would operate the existing facility in a double shift, if required," he said. At present, the company is exporting 1,000 units and is manufacturing about 1,600 units of trucks and buses for the domestic market.

The company currently operates in the 25-49 tonnes heavy duty truck segment and intends to enter the 16-tonnes segment.
